Hazebrouck, May 1940
In conversation with Al Murray (aka The Pub Landlord) and historian James Holland, Ingram Murray describes the defence of Hazebrouck by the 1st Bucks Battalion between 26 and 28 May 1940. In delaying the German advance for 48 hours at great cost, the battalion helped win time for the British Expeditionary Force to secure the Dunkirk perimeter. Barely 200 men returned to England from Dunkirk while many others would endure five years’ captivity. Click here to listen
